Swing Academy UK Safeguarding Policy
1.Policy Statement
Swing Academy UK is committed to providing a safe, welcoming, inclusive and respectful environment for all participants. Although our classes are designed for adults aged 18 and over, we recognise our responsibility to promote the welfare of all participants and to take appropriate action where concerns about safety, wellbeing, abuse, harassment or exploitation arise. This policy applies to all classes, workshops, social events, performances and activities organised by Swing Academy UK.
2. Purpose
Promote a safe and respectful learning environment; protect participants from harassment, abuse, discrimination and inappropriate behaviour; provide clear procedures for reporting concerns; ensure concerns are handled appropriately and confidentially; and support a culture of consent and mutual respect within partner dancing.

4. Code of Conduct
All participants are expected to treat others with dignity and respect, respect personal boundaries, seek and respect consent during partner dancing, accept a partner’s decision to decline a dance, refrain from intimidating or discriminatory behaviour, and avoid excessive intoxication at classes and events.
5. Consent in Partner Dancing
Partner dancing involves physical contact and requires clear respect for personal boundaries. Participants should respect verbal and non-verbal indications of discomfort, avoid unnecessary physical contact, and accept requests for space or changes without argument.
6. Recognising Safeguarding Concerns
Safeguarding concerns may include harassment, bullying, sexual harassment, coercive behaviour, discrimination, stalking, abuse disclosures, or concerns regarding a vulnerable adult.
7. Reporting Concerns
Anyone who experiences or witnesses behaviour that causes concern is encouraged to report it as soon as possible. Reports may be made in person, by email or by telephone. Concerns will be recorded and managed appropriately.
8. Confidentiality
Information relating to safeguarding concerns will be shared only where necessary to protect an individual from harm, comply with legal obligations, or obtain advice from appropriate authorities.
9. Vulnerable Adults
Although classes are intended for adults, some participants may be considered vulnerable adults due to disability, illness, age-related factors or personal circumstances. Appropriate advice may be sought where concerns arise.
10. Managing Allegations and Complaints
Concerns will be considered fairly and objectively. Appropriate action may include warnings, suspension or exclusion from activities. Criminal matters may be referred to the police.
11. Online Safety
Communication should remain professional and respectful. Harassment, bullying or inappropriate messages will not be tolerated.
12. Emergency Situations
In an emergency where someone is at immediate risk of harm, contact emergency services by dialling 999 and take reasonable steps to ensure immediate safety.
13. Policy Review
This policy will be reviewed annually or sooner if legislation, guidance or operational requirements change.
